Loss and Longing: Grief as a Spiritual Path

December 7 @ 8:00 am - December 9 @ 5:00 pm

“Mirabai Starr takes us out dancing with the One,” says Ram Dass. Join her to share interspiritual teachings on loss and spiritual longing.

Mirabai’s youngest daughter was killed in a car accident in 2001 at the age of 14. On that same day, Mirabai’s translation of Dark Night of the Soul was released. She considers this experience, and the connection between profound loss and longing for God, the ground of her own spiritual life. If you, too, have suffered profound loss, you  may experience a palpable sense of the sacred flooding your heart — yet you may feel afraid to speak of this numinous gift for fear that it will seem that you’re not “sad.” Your being is vast enough, however, to hold brokenness and exaltation in the same shattered container. When you investigate this with curiosity and compassion you may find the pain of loss intimately entwined with your deepest yearning for the Divine. In doing so, you may cultivate emotional safety and peace. This workshop will include poetry from mystics of all traditions, deep dialogue, writing exercises, interspiritual chanting, and contemplative silence.
