God of Love with Mirabai Starr at Ark Books
God of Love is Mirabai Starr’s passionate exploration of the interconnected wisdom of the three Abrahamic faiths. She shares an overview of essential teachings, stories of saints and spiritual masters, prophetic calls for peace and justice, and deeply engaging narratives from her own spiritual experiences. She guides readers to recognize the teachings and practices that unify rather the three religions, and sheds light on the interspiritual perspective which celebrates the Divine in all paths.
In this revised and updated edition, Starr weaves new insights into her personal reflections on the unifying teachings at the heart of the monotheistic traditions. She guides readers to explore the streams of mystical longing and social justice that lead to a more profound intimacy with the sacred and an increased capacity for compassionate action. Also includes an index.

The Mystic’s Way: Living Wisdom Across the Spiritual Tradition
“A mystic gazes through the eyes of love, and love reveals itself as the one true thing.”
— Mirabai Starr, Ordinary Mysticism
The mystic’s way is your way.
It is about forging a direct path to the divine, unencumbered by the forms and formulations of organized religion. You are every bit as qualified to have a direct experience of the sacred as Teresa of Avila or Rumi. Reclaim your own mystical birthright. It is available every time you plant corn or do an errand for an elderly neighbor or apologize to your partner for taking them for granted. There is the face of God, the fragrance of the Goddess, flaming forth from a child’s drawing, from the hymn you sing in the bathtub, from the way the light stains the trees the color of ripe apricots just before the sun sets.
And so we go to the mystics not to elevate them to a status we could never hope to attain, but for clues about reclaiming our own mystical birthright. We read the poetry of Sufi saints and Christian monks. We sing prayers in Arabic, Hebrew, and Sanskrit. We harvest wisdom from Buddhist teachings about how to cultivate kinship with all beings, and we look to Greco-Roman myths to reflect back to us the transformational power of grief and loss. The love-longing that brims from every stanza of mystical poetry both blesses and evokes our own yearning for union.
Sure, you can walk the spiritual path all by yourself, collecting your mystical experiences in a basket and stashing them for safekeeping. Or you can dare to gather in community and walk each other home.
This is a spiritually-oriented community for those who hunger for a direct encounter with the sacred and the companions to share it with.

Flowing Upstream: Striving, Yielding and Returning Together
Join SDI for a five day contemplative retreat at Ghost Ranch, featuring Mirabai Starr and Executive Director Rev. SeiFu
What does the spiritual life ask of us when the river isn’t flowing in the direction we want to go?
At Ghost Ranch, surrounded by vast skies, desert silence, and ancient stone, we’ll explore the mysterious interplay of striving and yielding, effort and surrender, practice and presence.
Together, we’ll consider what our spiritual practices are really for—not to protect us from the difficulties of life, or to help us rise above them, but to teach us how to remain present and responsive when life asks more of us than we imagined we could give.
Through contemplative practices, teachings, silence, writing, time in nature, conversation, and community, we’ll explore the wisdom of multiple spiritual traditions and the possibility that even our struggles can become part of the path.
And we’ll do it together.
Because the contemplative journey is not one we are meant to walk alone. At Ghost Ranch, the landscape itself becomes a teacher, while the wisdom and presence of the community become part of our practice.
Ultimately, this is a retreat about returning to ourselves, returning to one another, and returning to the ordinary lives waiting for us at home—with a deeper capacity to recognize the sacredness already there.
